Employee Return-to-Work/Campus Fall 2020 FAQs

Note: Faculty and staff with questions regarding return-to-campus are encouraged to reach out to their supervisor or department head directly.

Process for Returning to Work/Campus

Faculty and staff are encouraged to reach out to their supervisor directly, to find out whether or not they are required to report to campus at this time.

Returns to campus are being continuously evaluated on an individual basis, and are based on guidance from New York State and Rensselaer business needs. Faculty and staff are encouraged to reach out to their supervisor directly to find out whether or not they are required to report to campus at this time.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to consult with their supervisor for decisions regarding working arrangements.

Rensselaer is a family-friendly employer and supports a child and elder care program for such needs. Additional services have been added by A New England Nanny and include in-home teachers, assistance with remote learning, and in-home care versus daycare options.  For additional information, visit https://anewenglandnanny.com/contact-us/.

When you receive formal notice to return to campus from the Division of Human Resources, you must:

1. Complete the “COVID-19 Return-to-Work/Return-to-Campus Questionnaire” and return it to Lou Padula, director of benefits, retirement, and HRIS, at padull@rpi.edu.

2. Undergo a COVID-19 test (instructions will be included in your formal notification).

3. Complete the “Rensselaer Plan to Return to Campus-Based Operations” module in Percipio. The training is assigned under “Required Compliance Assignments.”

Once you have met the three requirements and are cleared to come to campus, you will receive an email from the Division of Human Resources. Upon returning to campus, employees must follow all health and safety protocols to help protect our community from COVID-19, including:

  • Maintain six feet distance from others (social distancing);
  • Wear a face mask at all times in public spaces (both indoor and outdoor);
  • Follow all COVID-19 signage and instructions;
  • Stay home and contact your supervisor when experiencing possible symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, fever, chills, muscle pain, shortness of breath, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell);
  • Clean and disinfect frequently used surfaces; and
  • Wash your hands frequently.

After you are notified of your return to campus by the Division of Human Resources, you will need to reset your RCS password by contacting the Rensselaer Help Desk at (518) 276-7777.

Faculty and staff must contact their supervisor to make these arrangements.

Testing

All employees must be tested, unless you are exclusively working remotely.

Yes.

Employees who have been instructed to complete a test on campus will be provided with instructions. Questions can be directed to the Division of Human Resources.

The frequency of testing depends on several risk factors, including, but not limited to: your position; your on-campus frequency; and the amount of regular interactions you have with students, faculty, and staff. Faculty and staff members who are working remotely do not need to participate in the testing program. As these factors increase, the testing frequency increases from monthly, to bi-weekly, to weekly.

The nasal swab technique is being utilized. Prior to arriving for your test, please watch the “How to Take Your COVID Sample” video.

Instructions will be provided prior to your appointment.

Please bring your Rensselaer ID card.

In general, you will receive information regarding your test from the Division of Human Resources within 48 hours, including, if you have met the requirement to return to campus.  Since your test is part of an aggregated pool, a presumptive outcome will be provided.
