215th Commencement of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

April 13, 2021
Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D., President, Professor of Physics, Applied Physics, and Astronomy, Professor of Engineering Sciences

Yesterday, April 12, 2021, New York State released expanded guidelines related to commencement exercises for higher education institutions. I am pleased to announce that as a result of these expanded guidelines, we are able to include all Rensselaer students who are eligible to graduate in May 2021, as well as August 2020 and December 2020 graduates, in this year’s in-person Commencement ceremony.

The outdoor ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the East Campus Athletic Village (ECAV) stadium, and will be the 215th Commencement ceremony hosted by Rensselaer. Due to New York State guidelines, the in-person ceremony will be for students only. A live stream of the ceremony will be available for guests.

We will also revive our grand tradition of the President’s Commencement Colloquy this year. I look forward to hosting our honorary degree recipients on Friday, May 21, 2021, the eve of Commencement, for a thought-provoking and spirited discussion.

Additional details, including health and safety protocols, will be provided by the Commencement Planning Committee. You may check the Commencement website for updates.

We look forward to celebrating the achievements of this outstanding class of scholars.

As previously communicated, the Class of 2020, including August 2019 and December 2019 graduates, will be celebrated during Reunion & Homecoming weekend this fall.
